Road Atlanta is a permanent race track in Braselton , Georgia, USA . The course has twelve curves over a length of 4.088 kilometers.

The racetrack is owned by NASCAR Holdings ; from 2006 to 2012 the track belonged to the Panoz racing team , who had made some renovations to the track.

history

Free practice during the American Le Mans Series.

In 1969, three businessmen, David Sloyer, Earl Walker, and Arthur Montgomery, bought 330 acres of land in Hall County, Georgia , to build a motor racing circuit. However, flood damage caused considerable damage to the track and an already planned CanAm race had to be canceled. The organizers decided to rebuild the route under the name Road Atlanta , and the construction work was completed within six months. On September 13, 1970, the first race could be started with a year delay, the winner was Tony Dean from Britain .

In 1978 the line was sold and from then on continuously changed hands until bankruptcy had to be declared in 1993. Over the next few years, the track was renovated and expanded so that it could finally be sold to the Panoz racing team, who still own the track to this day.

Under the new owner, the track was expanded, a chicane was built at the end of the long straight , the paddock was expanded and a grandstand with space for 10,000 spectators was installed. The FIA issued the license for international racing series on the track. Since then, the American Le Mans Series has been a guest on the course every year.

In 2007 the track surface was renewed and the track boundaries were expanded to increase safety for the drivers.
