Élan Motorsport Technologies is the holding company founded in 1997 for the motorsport activities of the automobile manufacturer Panoz Auto Development . The seat is in Braselton in the US state Georgia .

history

In 1997 the Panoz Esperante GTR-1 was developed as the first racing car for the GT1 class . As a sports car with a front engine, this was one of the most unusual of the time. From 1999 this was replaced by the Panoz LMP-1 Roadster-S , a further development of the GTR-1 without a roof. Two years later, this was also replaced by the Panoz LMP07 . The LMP07 turned out to be a mistake. From 2003 a GT2 version of the Panoz Esperante , the Esperante GT-LM, was developed and used. In addition to the North American IMSA racing series , such as the American Le Mans Series , all of these vehicles were also on the road in Europe.

The Panoz DP02 was developed for class 1 of the IMSA Lights racing series. This is based on the failed Formula X project. This vehicle is delivered with a 2.3 liter Mazda engine and also serves as the basis for the monoposto used in the Formula Star Mazda . In addition, the Panoz DP04 is a similar vehicle for class 2, but with an engine that comes from the Suzuki GSXR 1000. The Panoz DP06 is another chassis designed for this series. As the only permitted vehicle for the class, it is sold as the FSCCA Sports Car or SCCA Sports Racer . The special thing about this vehicle, however, is that, as was the case with Formula X, it can also be converted into a formula racing car ( Formula SCCA ) in a short time .

The British manufacturer Van Diemen , known for its Formula Ford racing cars , was bought out in 1999. He is also technically responsible for the Formula Star Mazda and the SCCA vehicles. In addition to Van Diemen, the chassis manufacturer G-Force was also taken over. Most of them produced chassis for the IndyCar Series . The racing cars, now known as Panoz-G-Force, are no longer produced, so that only competitor Dallara remains in the IndyCar Series .

For the 2007 Champ Car season , EMT designed the new Panoz DP01. Equipped with a Cosworth engine, this should herald the future of the Champ Car series. But after the series was taken over by the IRL in 2008, this project had to be buried. However, since the prices of the Dallara chassis used by the IRL became horrendous due to the high euro exchange rate, there were considerations to use the Panoz DP01 as an American make in the IRL from 2009.

As a new project, EMT is building the Superleague Formula racing car , the Panoz DP09. This is equipped with a 4.2 liter V12 from Menard Competition Technologies .
