Friedhelm Hans Ernst Ulrich von Estorff (born April 13, 1932 ; † October 19, 2014 in Hamburg ) was a German photographer and photojournalist .

Life

He came from the old Lower Saxon noble family von Estorff and was the son of Lieutenant Colonel Werner von Estorff (1893–1945) and Margarethe Voth (1907–1983).

Estorff first made a commercial apprenticeship from 1945 and then a photography apprenticeship. From 1953 to 1955 he worked for the Keystone press agency and then as a freelance press photographer. The highlights of his career included the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne and 1960 in Rome .

But his main interest was show business . In the 1950s he produced photo reports about Josephine Baker , Marlene Dietrich and John Wayne , and in the 1960s he worked as a photographer in the Hamburg music club Star-Club, reporting on the Rolling Stones , the Beatles , The Who , Jimi Hendrix and the Bee Gees .

Estorff's first marriage was Elvira Haase (* 1940) on June 5, 1961 in Berlin . After three years of marriage and a few months after his divorce, he married another woman. The marriages resulted in a total of four sons and two daughters.
