AMA Superbike Championship
The AMA Superbike Championship is the US Superbike Championship and is held under the care of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) as part of the AMA Pro Racing series. Other classes are the AMA Supersport Championship , AMA Superstock Championship and the AMA Formula Xtreme . The championship has been held since 1976 and, together with the British Superbike Championship (BSB), is considered the strongest national Superbike championship.
The technical regulations of the AMA Superbike are very liberal and allow e.g. B. Engine modifications prohibited in most other Superbike championships.
The most successful drivers in the history of the series are Doug Poland , Scott Russell and Mat Mladin . In addition, many successful American motorcycle world championship pilots, such as Wayne Rainey , Eddie Lawson and Nicky Hayden, gained experience in the AMA Superbike.
Technical regulations
- Only homologated motorcycles are used in the Superbike championship.
- Superbike motorcycles must be approved for use on public roads and available from retailers.
- The minimum import requirement per model from the manufacturer depends on the retailers in the USA (approximately 150 to 400 units).
- Only four-stroke engines with at least two cylinders and a displacement of 901 to 1000 cm³ are permitted.
- The weight must be a minimum of 370 pounds (approx. 168 kg) (excluding fuel) and 375 pounds (approx. 170 kg) (with fuel).
