Eddie Lawson (born March 11, 1958 in Upland , California ) is a retired American motorcycle and automobile racer .
Career
Lawson won the US Superbike Championship in 1981 and 1982 on a Kawasaki Z 1000 (Z1000J and 1982 Z1000S1).
With Yamaha he won the world championships in 1984 , 1986 and 1988 in the 500 cc class of the motorcycle world championship . For the 1989 season he moved to Erv Kanemoto's Rothmans Honda team and won the world championship title in the premier class for the fourth time. With this achievement, "Steady Eddie" is considered one of the most successful racing drivers in history. Overall, the US-American was victorious 31 times in the class up to 500 cm³.
From 1992 to 1994 Lawson started in the Indy Lights series , in 1996 he reached rank 20 in the Champ Car series with a Lola - Mercedes .
In 1999, Eddie Lawson was inducted into the MotoGP Hall of Fame .
