The 1984 motorcycle world championship season was the 36th in the history of the FIM - motorcycle road world championship .

Twelve races were held in the classes up to 500 cm³ and up to 250 cm³, eleven in the classes up to 125 cm³ and up to 80 cm³ and seven races for the sidecar .
