2014 season>

The 2013 motorcycle world championship season was the 65th in the history of the FIM - motorcycle road world championship . 18 races were held in the MotoGP class and 17 races in the Moto2 and Moto3 classes.

Distribution of points

The world champion will be the driver or manufacturer who has accumulated the most points in the world championship by the end of the season. When distributing points, the placements are taken into account in the overall result of the respective race. The top fifteen drivers in each race receive points according to the following scheme:

In the first corner after the start, Jorge Lorenzo initially took the lead. Marc Márquez was only just able to avoid a collision with his team-mate Dani Pedrosa and emerged from the start phase in third place. The Czech Grand Prix at the Automotodrom Brno took place on August 25, 2013 and covered a distance of 22 laps of 5.403 km each, which corresponds to a total distance of 118.866 km.

At the start, Lorenzo, who had started from the second row, took the lead. After the first lap, the order of the first ten drivers was as follows: Lorenzo in front of Márquez, Pedrosa, Crutchlow, Bautista, Rosi, Smith Bradl, Dovizioso and Hayden. In the third lap, Smith, who was sixth, fell. Lukáš Pešek also fell on the same lap . Neither driver suffered any serious injuries. The other failures in this round included Héctor Barberá and Claudio Corti whom Barberá carried away when he fell. The Grand Prix of Great Britain at the Silverstone Circuit took place on September 1, 2013 and went over a distance of 20 laps of 5.902 km, which corresponds to a total distance of 118.04 km.

In the warm-up for the race, the current world championship leader, Márquez, fell badly and suffered a dislocated shoulder. Furthermore, the race director gave him two penalty points. The reasoning stated that, despite waving yellow flags, Marquez did not reduce his speed accordingly as a result of the Crutchlow accident.

At the start of the race, Lorenzo and his Yamaha took the lead from Márquez. Rossi and Bradl followed. After the first lap, the order of the first ten drivers was as follows: Lorenzo ahead of Márquez, Bradl, Rossi, Pedrosa, Crutchlow, Bautista, Smith, Dovizioso and Hayden. On lap two, Lukáš Pešek crashed with his Ioda-Suter. On lap four Bradl lost his third place to Pedrosa. On lap six, Bradl was overtaken by Bautista and was now fifth. On lap ten, Bradl lost another place to Rossi. At the top, a slipstream duel developed between Lorenzo and Márquez.

On lap 18, Márquez attacked Lorenzo in front of him and took the lead for the first time in this race. Lorenzo countered this attack a lap later and took the lead again. Both drivers went into the last lap of the race in close formation. Once again, Márquez was able to overtake from the slipstream. Lorenzo was able to counter this attack successfully. While still on the home stretch, Marquez pulled out of Lorenzo's slipstream again. However, Lorenzo saved his victory with a tiny lead of only 81 thousandths of a second. Third in the race was Dani Pedrosa . Valentino Rossi was fourth ahead of Álvaro Bautista . Stefan Bradl completed the top six. Local hero Crutchlow finished seventh.

The San Marino Grand Prix at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli took place on September 15, 2013 and covered a distance of 28 laps of 4.226 km, which corresponds to a total distance of 118.328 km.

In the run-up to the race, Yamaha used a seamless transmission for its factory riders for the first time. At the start, Lorenzo, starting from second position, took the lead past pole-setter Márquez. Aleix Espargaró made a jump start for which he was given a drive-through penalty by the race management. After the first lap the order at the top was Lorenzo, Pedrosa, Márquez, Rossi, Espargaró, Crutchlow, Bradl, Bautista, Iannone and Smith. On lap three, Lukáš Pešek gave up the race due to pain. On the fourth lap, Lorenzo was 2.5 seconds ahead of Pedrosa. On the same lap, Iannone, who was ninth, crashed. On lap five, Rossi drove past Marquez to third after a driving error. On lap thirteen, Marquez was able to regain his third place. Behind the top quartet, Crutchlow and Bradl were fighting for fifth place. On lap eighteen, Marquez improved to second; Lorenzo was already 2.9 seconds ahead of him at this point. Due to the duel between Márquez and Pedrosa, Lorenzo was able to extend his lead to 4.3 seconds by the 22nd lap.

After a faultless race, Jorge Lorenzo won the San Marino Grand Prix ahead of Marc Márquez and Dani Pedrosa . Valentino Rossi was fourth ahead of Stefan Bradl , who was able to push Cal Crutchlow from fifth. Seventh place was Álvaro Bautista ahead of Andrea Dovizioso . Nicky Hayden came in ninth ahead of Michele Pirro .

A close duel for victory developed between Viñales and Rins right up to the home straight.

In the end, Álex Rins won with a wafer-thin lead over Maverick Viñales , whose front wheel briefly lost its grip on the asphalt in the last corner. Álex Márquez came in third ahead of Luis Salom and Jack Miller .
