The 2013 motorcycle world championship season was the 65th in the history of the FIM - motorcycle road world championship . 18 races were held in the MotoGP class and 17 races in the Moto2 and Moto3 classes.
Distribution of points
The world champion will be the driver or manufacturer who has accumulated the most points in the world championship by the end of the season. When distributing points, the placements are taken into account in the overall result of the respective race. The top fifteen drivers in each race receive points according to the following scheme:

The Grand Prix of Great Britain at the Silverstone Circuit took place on September 1, 2013 and went over a distance of 20 laps of 5.902 km, which corresponds to a total distance of 118.04 km.
In the warm-up for the race, the current world championship leader, Márquez, fell badly and suffered a dislocated shoulder. Furthermore, the race director gave him two penalty points. The reasoning stated that, despite waving yellow flags, Marquez did not reduce his speed accordingly as a result of the Crutchlow accident.
At the start of the race, Lorenzo and his Yamaha took the lead from Márquez. Rossi and Bradl followed. After the first lap, the order of the first ten drivers was as follows: Lorenzo ahead of Márquez, Bradl, Rossi, Pedrosa, Crutchlow, Bautista, Smith, Dovizioso and Hayden. On lap 18, Márquez attacked Lorenzo in front of him and took the lead for the first time in this race. Lorenzo countered this attack a lap later and took the lead again. Both drivers went into the last lap of the race in close formation. Once again, Márquez was able to overtake from the slipstream. Lorenzo was able to counter this attack successfully. While still on the home stretch, Marquez pulled out of Lorenzo's slipstream again. However, Lorenzo saved his victory with a tiny lead of only 81 thousandths of a second. In the run-up to the race, Yamaha used a seamless transmission for its factory riders for the first time. At the start, Lorenzo, starting from second position, took the lead past pole-setter Márquez. Aleix Espargaró made a jump start for which he was given a drive-through penalty by the race management. After the first lap the order at the top was Lorenzo, Pedrosa, Márquez, Rossi, Espargaró, Crutchlow, Bradl, Bautista, Iannone and Smith. On lap three, Lukáš Pešek gave up the race due to pain.
