Nicolás Terol
Nicolás Terol Peidro (born September 27, 1988 in Alcoi , Valencia region , Spain ) is a former Spanish motorcycle racer and was the last 125 cc world champion on Aprilia in the history of the motorcycle world championship in the 2011 season . He played most of his career in the Aspar team .
Career
Nicolás Terol started his career on pocket bikes in 1999 , and in 2002 he was runner-up in the Spanish Formula Bancaja series. The following year he finished 16th overall in the 125 cc class of the Spanish motorcycle championship. In 2004 he graduated fourth. In the same year the Spaniard made his debut in the motorcycle world championship on an Aprilia as a substitute for Mike Di Meglio at the eight-liter Grand Prix of Valencia .
In 2005 Terol started for Caja Madrid - Derbi Racing on a Derbi for the first time as a fixed starter in the 125cc World Championship. However, the Spaniard only scored one World Championship point and was 35th overall. In the following year , Terol rose to constant places in the World Cup points and thus to 14th place in the World Cup in the second half of the season. In the 2007 season , his third on Derbi, Nicolás Terol and the Czech Lukáš Pešek formed the Valsir-Seedorf-Derbi team, which was supported by the Dutch soccer star Clarence Seedorf . However, he did not manage to consistently reach the points and was 22nd in the World Cup with 19 points.
For the 2008 season, Terol switched to the Jack & Jones WRB team , where he competed on Aprilia alongside the Italian Simone Corsi . At the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez , he achieved his first podium finish in the 125cc World Championship with second place behind his team-mate. Later, at the Indianapolis Grand Prix in the USA, she even won her first Grand Prix. In 2008 Terol was fifth in the World Championship with 176 points. In 2009 the Spaniard won the Czech Grand Prix in Brno in the same team and celebrated three second places. In the overall standings, he climbed to third place. His deficit on world champion Julián Simón was still 99.5 points at the end of the season.
For the 2010 season, Nicolás Terol moved to the Aspar team of four-time world champion Jorge Martínez , in which Simón had won the title last year. The Spaniard won the opening Grand Prix in Qatar on Aprilia and again in the Czech Republic and Indianapolis. After 16 races so far, of which he has only contested 14 due to an injury, he has only failed to make it onto the podium twice and is up against his compatriots Marc Márquez and Pol Espargaró head-to-head for the world title.
