The 1956 motorcycle world championship season was the eighth in the history of the FIM - motorcycle road world championship .

Deaths

  • The South African Eddie Grant was killed in a race in Villefranche-de-Rouergue, France, in early August 1956.
  • Derek Ennett , who came from the Isle of Man, had a fatal accident on August 9, 1956 in the 350cc race for the Ulster Grand Prix.
  • The NSU works driver Hans Baltisberger from Betzingen died on August 26, 1956 from serious injuries that he had sustained shortly before in a fall in the race for the Czechoslovakian Grand Prix in Brno.
  • The 14-time Dutch motorcycle champion Lo Simons had a fatal accident on September 23, 1956 in a race in Kristianstad, Sweden, after falling due to a broken connecting rod.
