Horst Kassner
Horst Kassner (born May 12, 1937 in Schwabhausen ; † April 21, 2019 ) was a German motorcycle racer .
Career
Horst Kassner's first major success was fourth place in the 250 cm³ run for the 1954 Feldberg race on a 250 NSU - Sportmax behind Walter Reichert (NSU), Fritz Kläger (NSU) and Hubert Luttenberger ( Adler ). In the German Championship of the Year, he was fifth in the quarter liter class.
In 1957, 1959 and 1961 Kassner was German champion in the 250 cm³ class on NSU. In 1959 he was even able to become double champion, because he also won the 350 title with his Norton . His name appears twice in the Nürburgring winner lists : 1957 and 1961 and in Hockenheim he won in 1958, both on a 250cc NSU. Horst Kassner was particularly successful on the Masaryk-Ring in Brno , Czechoslovakia . He won in 1955 and 1956 on 250 cc NSU and 1958 BMW - sidecar of the Swiss Florian Camathias the was holding its Grand Prix of Czechoslovakia .
Between 1956 and 1959 Kassner was also active in the world championship in the class up to 250 cm³. In 1956, after finishing third at the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps , he was fifth in the overall ranking of the quarter-liter class behind Carlo Ubbiali ( Italy ) and Luigi Taveri (Switzerland, both MV Agusta ).
His younger brother Helmut (* 1946) was also very successful. Between 1974 and 1977 he was four times German champion in the 500 cm³ class, three times on a Yamaha , once on a Suzuki . Also 1975 German champion of the 350 cc class on a Yamaha. At the Boycott Grand Prix 1974 at the Nürburgring he was winner in the classes up to 250 cm³ and 350 cm³ and second in the 500cc class. Horst Kassner's son Bernd won the German championship title in 1992 on a 250 cm³ Aprilia .
Horst Kassner died on April 21, 2019 at the age of 81.
