The 1959 motorcycle world championship season was the eleventh in the history of the FIM - motorcycle road world championship .

Seven races were held in the classes up to 500 cm³ and up to 125 cm³, six in the classes up to 350 cm³ and up to 250 cm³ and five races for the sidecar .

  • The number of rated runs was calculated with an even number of races held by halving this number and then adding one. In six races, four went into the championship ranking.
  • If an odd number of races was held, the number of runs was added by one and then halved. In seven races, four were therefore counted.
  • For the teams, the four best results achieved were included in the World Championship ranking.

Deaths

  • The Italian Adolfo Covi was killed on September 6, 1959 in an accident in the Curva Vialone during the 500 cc race for the Nations' Grand Prix in Monza .
