Bob Anderson was a motorcycle racer first and contested a total of 15 grands prix in the motorcycle world championship between 1951 and 1966 . He achieved his best World Cup placements in 1958 and 1960 when he was fifth in the 350 cm³ class on Norton .
In the early 1960s Anderson drove the first time a Lola - Formula Junior in Snetterton and then belonged to Lotus -Formula Junior Team. At the beginning of 1963 he bought a Lola F1 and was involved as a private driver in the automobile world championship . In 1964 he became a Brabham driver and took his only podium behind Lorenzo Bandini and Richie Ginther in the 1st Austrian Grand Prix . After that he never had enough money to keep up with the top teams, thought of quitting at the end of 1966, but tried again in the 1967 season. During private test drives at Silverstone , he slipped into a marshals' house on a wet road and died a few days later from his head injuries at a Northampton hospital .
