Scoring
space 1 2 3 4th 5 6th
Points 8th 6th 4th 3 2 1

If fewer than eight races were held, the best four results were included in the ranking; if eight or more races were staged, the five best results achieved were included in the World Championship ranking.

useful information

  • The Briton Fergus Anderson won the 500cc race in Spain on a 350cc machine.
  • With Werner Haas , a German won a world title for the first time in the history of the motorcycle world championship. At the same time, the Augsburg resident managed to win the titles in the 125 cc and 250 cc class in one season.
  • Since the two manufacturers MV Agusta and NSU had the same number of points, victories and all other placements in the constructors' championship of the 125 cc class , the constructors' world championship was determined by adding up all the racing times of the manufacturers' best drivers at the individual Grands Prix. The Italian brand MV Agusta had 36.1  seconds ahead of NSU and was awarded the title.

Deaths

  • The British 500 cc world champion of the 1949 season, Leslie Graham , was killed on Friday, June 12, 1953 in an accident in the 500 cc race of the Tourist Trophy. In third place, he lost control of his motorcycle at high speed in the difficult section of Bray Hill , fell and died at the scene of the accident.
