Siegfried "Sissi" Wünsche (born June 23, 1916 in Langebrück ; † August 20, 2000 ) was a German motorcycle racer .

Career

After graduating from high school, Siegfried Wünsche was supposed to study medicine as his father wanted. However, he wanted to drive motorcycle races and did his first in 1933 on a DKW “blood bladder”. This year's successes included third place in a hill climb and fifth place on the Marienberger Dreieck . In 1934 he switched to an AJS K10, but was unable to achieve any presentable success due to frequent gearbox damage.

From 1935, Siegfried Wünsche started as an ID driver on a 250 cc DKW SS and was able to achieve four victories in four races. The following year he became a licensed driver. In 1937, Wünsche started as a DKW works driver for the first time at the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man and took fifth place in the 250 cm³ class, the so-called Lightweight TT .

In 1938 Wünsche finally became a works driver for the Zschopau manufacturer and mostly competed in the UL 350 in the 350 cm³ class. In the European Championship he reached third place overall behind Ted Mellors ( Velocette ) and "Crasher" White ( Norton ). At the Grand Mountain Prize of Germany on the Grossglockner , he won the 350 this year. The following year Wünsche was third in the 350 cm³ EM behind Heiner Fleischmann (DKW), Ted Mellors and Stanley Woods (both Velocette), after which he had to end his career for the time being because of the Second World War .

Requests did not participate in racing again until 1948. In the western zones he temporarily started as Sissi Sachse and Stefan Wagner on a purchased pre-war DKW SS 350 and, among other things, achieved third place in Rund um Schotten on the Schottenring before he moved with his family to Ingolstadt . In 1949 he won the German championship in the class up to 350 cm³ on his own old DKW racing machine. From 1950 he drove again as a semi-works driver for DKW and Auto Union, which had meanwhile moved to West Germany. Wish started on an SS 350, which was still from 1939, and thus took second place in the overall German championship. In 1951 and 1952 he started as a works driver for DKW in the classes up to 250 and 350 cm³. In 1952 he finished second in the Eilenriederennen behind Ewald Kluge , who just like him drove the new DKW RM 350 , which was completed after nine months of development . In 1953 Siegfried Wünsche won his second German 350 cm³ championship title, in the 250 cc class he finished second behind Hermann Gablenz . This year's individual successes included victories in the Eifel race and on the Solitude, a double victory (250 and 350 cm) in the Feldberg race and third place in the light-weight TT .

Siegfried Wünsche started as a works driver for DKW until 1955, after which he ended his career. He died on August 20, 2000 at the age of 84.
