history
On June 10, 1923, the first race took place on the track following the existing road. Sporting highlights were the all-German championship run in 1950 with 250,000 spectators and the international Formula 3 races in the 1960s.
Over the years the route has been rebuilt several times. For example, the hairpin bend in Schleiz was replaced by a shortcut in front of the village in order to defuse the route with a chicane . However, the two southern corners of the course continued to run through residential areas. The Schleizer Dreieck, which was shortened to half its original length, was reopened on August 21, 2004, after the 1.3 kilometer long “cross bar” west of the Schleizer district of Oberböhmsdorf had been completed.
Today the Schleiz is mainly for motorcycle , - team - and veterans -race and for the ADAC - hill climb used. The run of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) is considered the season highlight .
Ex-racing driver Freddy Kottulinsky lived nearby until 2008 and campaigned for the Schleizer Dreieck.
Others
On May 16, 2010, the German Cycling Cup was held for the first time on the Schleizer Dreieck . The start and finish were on the racetrack. At the Schleizer-Dreieck-Jedermannrennen there are three routes over 38 km, 76 km and 152 km. The race now takes place annually. The last race so far was held on June 24, 2018.
