Oberböhmsdorf has been part of the town of Schleiz in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia since March 8, 1994 .

Oberböhmsdorf is primarily known as the start and finish point of the traditional races on the Schleizer Dreieck .

Geography and geology

Oberböhmsdorf is hidden on a higher plateau behind the Buchhübel and forests that frame the fields. A convenient connection is via the state road 282.

From a geological point of view, the area is in the south-east Thuringian slate mountains. Due to the high proportion of fine soil and the high humus content, these soils are very productive and reliable. This is what the farmers find in the field. Spring troughs and narrow valleys are typical grassland locations. The farmers mostly only cultivate arable land on plateau-like ridges, undulating plains and flat slopes. In the other areas there is forest,

history

The origins of the place can only be traced back to the 14th century. A foundation by Bohemian immigrants cannot be proven, but it is obvious. The names Prager and Böhm, which have been attested for centuries, could prove this.

In 1333 the place was first mentioned as Bemsdorf . The name changed over time via Behmsdorf and Bemisdorf to Böhmsdorf and was changed to Oberböhmsdorf around 1533 due to the fact that the name was identical with another place within the Schleiz lordship (today Niederböhmersdorf ) . The town's church was mentioned in a document as early as 1432. A today desolate old Klaus chapel near the village was donated as early as 1399. The current church in Oberböhmsdorf was essentially built in 1705 after a fire in 1665 destroyed the previous building from the 15th century. The interior design is characterized by a simple, but by no means sparse, beauty and festivity. The organ, inaugurated in 1777, came from the well-known master organ builder Johann Gottlob Trampeli . Today only the prospectus remains of this organ .

From June 26th to 29th, 2008 Oberböhmsdorf commemorated the establishment of the town 675 years ago with a festival weekend.
