Möschlitz is a district of the town of Schleiz in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .
Geography and geology
Not far southwest of Schleiz are the village and the district of Möschlitz. The district is interrupted by the federal motorway 9 , which passes east of the village . To the west of the hamlet of Grochwitz , the Wisentatalsperre delimits the original landscape. The village can be reached on well-developed local roads.
Neighboring towns are Grochwitz, Mönchgrün , and Oschitz , now part of Schleiz.
Geologically, the corridor of the place is in the southeast Thuringian slate mountains . Due to the high proportion of fine soil and the high humus content, these soils are very productive and reliable. Spring troughs and narrow valleys of the streams are typical grassland locations. Agriculture is practiced on plateau-like ridges, undulating plains and flat slopes. There is forest on other areas, as is the case here.
history
The place was first mentioned in a document on June 23, 1333. In 1621 Prince Heinrich II. Reuss established a mint in the village . In 1877 the St. Severi Church was rebuilt after fires in the years 1820–1875.
On December 29, 1995 Möschlitz was incorporated into the town of Schleiz. Today the place has about 500 inhabitants.
traffic
Möschlitz is on the Schleiz – Saalburg railway line . This has now been shut down.
