Burgkhammer is a district of Burgk within the town of Schleiz in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

geography

Burgkhammer is located at the foot of the neighboring hill of Burgk Castle in the Saale valley on the headland in the loop to the lower basin of the Bleiloch pumped storage power plant . There, state road 1101 from Möschlitz to Remptendorf crosses the equalization basin. Tourists and residents are thus connected to the surrounding area by traffic.

Burgkhammer was first mentioned in a document on January 6, 1366.

In 1943, fourteen military internees from Italy lost their lives in a fire in Burgkhammer .
