Mammillaria perbella is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet perbella means '(Latin perbella) very fine'.
description
Mammillaria perbella initially grows singly, later branching dichotomously several times and forming groups. The depressed spherical shoots are glaucous green and up to 6 centimeters in diameter. The warts are small, conical in shape and contain no milky juice . The axillae are covered with white wool and bristles. Up to 2 strong central spines of reddish white color, later becoming completely white, are 1 to 6 millimeters long. Sometimes they are completely absent. The 14 to 18 radial spines are bristle-like, the longest white with a black tip. They are 1.5 to 3 millimeters long.
The flowers are carmine red to deep pink. They grow to be 1 centimeter in diameter. The fruits are red and contain small brown seeds .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Mammillaria perbella is common in the Mexican states of Guanajuato , Hidalgo and Querétaro .
It was first described in 1898 by Karl Moritz Schumann . Synonyms are Mammillaria cadereytensis R.T. Craig (1945), Mammillaria parkinsonii subsp. cadereytensis (RTCraig) Rogoz. & Plein (2002) and Mammillaria geminispina var. Infernillensis (RTCraig) E. Kuhn (1981, nom. Invalid ICBN -Article 33.3).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Vulnerable (VU) ", d. H. listed as endangered.
