Wolfgang Kahl (Author)

Wolfgang Kahl (* 1951 in Kranichfeld ) is a German author for the medieval history of Thuringia .

Kahl studied law at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena from 1975 to 1979 . In addition to works on the medieval history of Erfurt , Rudolstadt and Saalfeld , Kahl is primarily concerned with early documentary evidence of places in Thuringia. For this purpose, his handbook first mention of Thuringian Cities and Villages has been published in five editions since 1996 , which since the fifth edition in 2010 has also included the locations of the Burgenland district and the former Sangerhausen district in Saxony-Anhalt . The book is the first of its kind for the whole of Thuringia. However, it does not mention the old documented name forms or comments on individual entries, which is why some information is difficult to understand and does not always correspond with the state of current historical research, especially when it is unclear or controversial mentions in old written sources.
