The 1981 motorcycle world championship season was the 33rd in the history of the FIM - motorcycle road world championship .
In the classes up to 500 cm³ eleven, in the classes up to 350 cm³ and up to 50 cm³ eight, in the classes up to 250 cm³ and up to 125 cm³ twelve and in the sidecars ten races were held.
