Sachs Bikes is a German motorcycle brand of the Nuremberg company SFM GmbH (formerly Sachs Fahrzeug- und Motorentechnik GmbH ).

history

Sachs Roadster 800

Sachs Bikes emerged in 1995 from the Nuremberg motorcycle and bicycle manufacturer Hercules , which was taken over by the Schweinfurt industrial group Fichtel & Sachs in 1958 . After Fichtel & Sachs was completely taken over by Mannesmann in 1991, the Hercules parent company, now trading as Mannesmann Sachs, sold the Hercules brand and bicycle production to the Dutch ATAG Cycle Group (now Accell ) in 1995 . The remaining motorcycle production has since traded as Sachs Fahrzeug- und Motorentechnik GmbH, the motorcycles have since been sold under the Sachs Bikes brand instead of Hercules.

In October 2000, HSS Verwaltungs GmbH took over Sachs Fahrzeug- und Motorentechnik GmbH. In 2002 a small series of the Münch Mammut 2000 was produced for Münch Motorrad Technik GmbH (Würzburg) . In June 2006, Sachs Bikes had to file for bankruptcy. After a management buy-out (MBO), the motor vehicle manufacturer, which had been producing for over a hundred years, was taken over by the previous management on January 1, 2007, with the aim of increasingly positioning itself in the scooter segment. In 2008 the bankruptcy proceedings were discontinued and the company changed from Sachs Fahrzeug- und Motorentechnik GmbH to SFM GmbH.

Business areas

In addition to the production of some own models Sachs bikes was also a time importer of French motorcycle brand Voxan , the scooter company Malaguti and the Chinese company Huanan Motors and also drove small cars of the Italian brand Italcar (until 2006 Tasso), which with the introduced 2005 license class S moves may be.

In addition to the well-known models with combustion engines, Sachs Fahrzeug- und Motorentechnik GmbH has also worked on various series of single-track electric vehicles. For the "Sachs ELO-Bike Touring", Sachs Bikes was recognized as the test winner at the IFMA in Cologne in 2002, followed by the city of Nuremberg's environmental award in 2005.
