Voxan
Voxan is a French motorcycle manufacturer, founded at the end of 1995 in Issoire , France .
The name Voxan is an artificial word that alludes both to the landscape around the company headquarters at the foot of the Puy de Dôme (fr. Volcan = volcano) and to the characteristic V-engine . All Voxan engines are based on the same basic type with a 72 ° cylinder angle, four-valve cylinder heads and a displacement of 996 cubic centimeters. Another structural characteristic is the horizontal position of the strut under the engine.
history
Various partners were involved in setting up the project, originally initiated by Jacques Gardette, including Alain Chevallier, who is responsible for the design of the frame , and the engine manufacturer Sodemo in Magny-Cours . The first prototype was presented in 1997.
The first 50 Roadster models appeared on the market in 1999 . The second type of Café Racer came in 2000, the Scrambler a year later.
In 2001 the company Voxan filed for bankruptcy for the first time, in June 2002 the motorcycle manufacturer was taken over by Didier Cazeaux and the yacht manufacturer Guy Couach in order to ensure the continued existence of the company after initial difficulties and to enable the interrupted production to be resumed. From April 2003 Voxan motorcycles were built again and the range expanded with new models. For example, the Street Scrambler was created in 2003 and the Black Magic in 2004 based on the design by Sacha Lakic . Since September 2007, Voxan has been listed on Euronext Paris. In September 2009 the company had to file for bankruptcy again. This procedure was completed in March 2010. The company manufactured 1,838 motorcycles between July 1999 and December 2009 at the Issoire production site near Clermont-Ferrand.
In 2010 the naming rights were bought from Gildo Pastor Pallanca, the owner of Venturi Automobiles .
In 2013, the Voxan Wattman motorcycle study, powered by a 200 hp electric motor, was presented at the Paris Motorcycle Show. The motorcycle was not ready for series production and only one model had been produced by 2020. With this 367 hp one-off piece, a new speed record for electric motorcycles is to be set in 2021, with Max Biaggi as the driver . The Wattman weighs around 300 kg and is driven by a permanent magnet motor that is powered by a nearly 16 kWh lithium-ion battery .
