Jon Ekerold

Jonathan "Jon" Ekerold (born October 8, 1948 in Johannesburg ) is a former South African motorcycle racer .

Ekerold was road world champion in the class up to 350 cm³ on a Yamaha 1980 . In the overall standings he was three points ahead of second-placed Toni Mang ( Krauser ) and was the only private driver, i. H. Driver without the support of a manufacturer who was able to win a title in one of the classes from 250 cm³. In 1981 Ekerold reached the runner-up in the 350 cm³ class.

He himself recorded his path from his beginnings in South Africa to winning the world championship at the Nürburgring in his book The Privateer . His son Jonnie was also motorcycle racer and took, among others, in 1999 at the Superbike World Championship in part.
