The 1973 motorcycle world championship season was the 25th in the history of the FIM - motorcycle road world championship . Twelve races were held in the classes up to 500 cm³, up to 250 cm³ and up to 125 cm³, eleven in the class up to 350 cm³, seven in the class up to 50 cm³ and nine races for the teams .

  • The number of rated runs was calculated with an even number of races held by halving this number and then adding one. For example, out of six races, four went into the championship ranking.
  • If an odd number of races was held, the number of runs was added by one and then halved. For example, four of the seven races counted.
