500 cc Paton (1970)

Paton is an Italian racing motorcycle manufacturer . The company was founded in 1958 by Giuseppe Pattoni and Lino Tonti after the Italian manufacturers Gilera , Moto Guzzi and Mondial withdrew from racing at the end of the 1957 racing season. Pattoni was chief mechanic and Tonti design engineer at Mondial. The name Paton was derived from the first letters, Pa ttoni and Ton ti.

History and technology

The first Paton were single-cylinder engines with OHC valve control , the 125 cc engine from 1958 was specified with 18 hp at 12,000 rpm. Pattoni later developed two-cylinder engines for the 250cc class (1964), while Alberto Pagani finished third in the 1964 Isle of Man TT with the Paton . In 1965 a 350 series engine with DOHC valve control was developed, the output of which was specified as 40 hp at 11,000 rpm. In 1967 the Paton 500 was introduced. The output was initially 52 hp at 9600 rpm, the last models of the two-valve Paton with 483 cc displacement were specified in 1970 with 65 hp, which were in competition with Linto after Lino Tonti separated from Pattoni. In 1976, Pattoni developed a racing machine in the class up to 500 cm³ displacement, which had a newly developed V - four - cylinder two - stroke engine and was used in national races. In 2017 Paton won a victory in the Lightweight class at the Isle of Man TT with Michael Rutter .

Under the Paton brand , racing motorcycles that look like the classic Paton are offered to order.
