useful information
- The Grand Prix of Argentina and Brazil , which had not been held since 1999 and 1992 respectively, were back on the racing calendar.
- The US Grand Prix, which has only been held in the MotoGP class since 2005, is no longer on the racing calendar.
- The CRT format has been replaced by the Open format. Teams that wanted to start under these new rules had to use the standard control unit from Magneti Marelli . Teams using their own software were called "factories". In addition, the factory teams were only allowed to carry 20 liters of gasoline for a race distance. The open teams received 4 liters more. Another limitation was the number of engines per season and per driver. Open teams were allowed to use 12, factory teams 5.
