Shortly before that, he had finished third behind Toni Elías and Julián Simón at the Japanese Grand Prix . With 96 points he was ranked tenth in the overall ranking.
In 2011 , Karel Abraham and his team switched to the MotoGP class. In his debut season he scored 64 points on a Ducati, making it 14th in the overall standings. He secured the same world championship position with 59 points the following year .
In 2013 Abraham continued to compete in the MotoGP class and competed at ART. During qualifying for the Texas Grand Prix , he fell after a collision with Bryan Staring and injured his shoulder. As a result, he was injured for two races. It was not until the French Grand Prix that Abraham took part in a race again and scored a world championship point. After the warm-up for the Indianapolis Grand Prix, Abraham decided against participating in the race because of his poor health.
In 2017 the Czech returned to MotoGP, this time to Jorge Martínez 's Aspar team on a Ducati. With 32 points including a seventh place in the Dutch TT , which is his best MotoGP placement, he was 20 World Cup. In 2018 he only collected twelve points and was 23rd. In both years he was clearly defeated by his teammate Álvaro Bautista .
In 2019 Abraham moved to Avintia Racing after Aspar's MotoGP retirement . He finished the season in 24th with nine points. Originally he also had a contract for 2020, but was replaced by Johann Zarco shortly after the end of the 2019 season . The Czech then announced his retirement from racing.
