The 2016 Superbike World Championship season was the 29th in the history of the FIM - Superbike World Championship . 26 races were held at 13 events.
Distribution of points
The world champion will be the driver or manufacturer who has accumulated the most points in the world championship by the end of the season. When distributing points, the placements are taken into account in the overall result of the respective race. The top fifteen drivers in each race receive points according to the following scheme:

General
- The event in Germany at the Lausitzring is new to the racing calendar for the 2016 season . An event was also planned for the end of July in Monza , Italy . Since the necessary reconstruction of the racetrack had not been completed, a replacement was sought. Since there was no agreement, this run was completely canceled.
- The races in Portugal ( Portimão ) are no longer there .
- The second race in Aragón was the 700th race in the history of the Superbike World Championship.
Teams
- Yamaha returns to the Superbike World Championship after a four-year break. The racing motorcycle will be a Yamaha YZF-R1 . Crescent Racing will act as team partner. Which drove the Suzuki GSX-R1000 last season . As a driver of were Briton Alex Lowes ( British Superbike Champion in 2013 ) and the French Superbike World Champion of 2014 Sylvain Guintoli contracted.
- After the first round in Jerez , Spain , Kawasaki became Superbike Constructors' World Champion for the second time , with Tom Sykes finishing second three races to go .
driver
- Since Joshua Hook injured himself during a test in Australia, the Turk Toprak Razgatlıoğlu should replace him . However, this in turn fell in the second free practice session at the season opener in Australia. Since he broke an ankle in the process , there was no racing. The Thai Suhastchai Kaewjaturaporn was the substitute driver for Hook in his home country.
- Even Fabio Menghi was injured during the tests in Australia. Among other things, he suffered a fractured pelvis . No substitute driver was used for the races in Australia. In Thailand, Aragón , Assen and Imola he was represented by the Italian Matteo Baiocco .
- For the races in Sepang and Donington Fabio Menghi was represented by the Italian Luca Scassa . After Menghi the race in Misano denied he was by the race doctor for the race at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for unfit explained.
- The Frenchman Sylvain Barrier was replaced by his compatriot Lucas Mahias in Assen. Because Barrier injured himself on the second run in Aragón.
- Since Lucas Mahias was injured in a fall in Imola, the Australian Anthony West started as a substitute driver for Sylvain Barrier in Sepang and Donington.
- Alex De Angelis broke his little finger in a collision with Joshua Hook during the warm-up before the second run in Assen . That is why he did not take part in the race.
- After a highsider in Imola, the Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli was unable to take part in the races there. In Donington he was represented by the American Cameron Beaubier . At the races in Misano and Laguna Seca, Guintoli was replaced by the Italian Niccolò Canepa .
- Alex Lowes injured his collarbone after falling in Sepang . He took part in the first free practice session in Donington. But the injuries had not healed enough for him to take part in the races.
- The Italian Raffaele De Rosa drove the races in Laguna Seca for the injured Markus Reiterberger . Reiterberger injured his back after a highsider in the second run in Misano.
- Chaz Davies and Javier Forés competed as guest starters in the Audi Sport TT Cup at the Hungaroring . The two races took place on September 24th and 25th, 2016. Forés finished 13th and 15th. Davies was eliminated from both races.
- At the last event of the season in Qatar , Brit Leon Haslam was the reserve driver for Sylvain Barrier.
- With second place in the first race in Losail, Jonathan Rea became Superbike World Champion for the second time .
- With eight pole positions won Tom Sykes the Tissot-Superpole Award .
