Luca Scassa (born August 23, 1983 in Arezzo , Tuscany , Italy ) is an Italian motorcycle racer .

Scassa has competed in the Superbike World Championship since 2009 , his nickname is The Rocker .

Career

Beginnings

Luca Scassa was born with a passion for motorcycling . Father Luigi was a motorcycle racer himself and later worked as a mechanic. The Italian started out in motocross and later switched to road racing. He contested his very first race on a scooter and won straight away.

In 1999 Scassa was third and best rookie in the Aprilia 125 Cup , the following year he finished second in this championship. In 2001 he won the EuroCup Aprilia 250 Challenge . In 2002 and 2003 the Italian competed in the Coppa Italia Superstock 600 , which he won in the second year.

Between 2004 and 2006, Luca Scassa competed in both the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup and the Italian Superstock 1000 championship . In the first two years he finished seventh and fourth overall in these series on a Kawasaki ZX-10R and Yamaha YZF-R1 . In 2006 the Aretiner won the Italian championship in the Superstock 1000 class on MV Agusta , and in the FIM Cup he finished third behind his compatriots Alessandro Polita and Claudio Corti .

In 2007 Scassa competed in the US AMA Superbike Championship on MV Agusta , where he was named Rookie of the Year .

In the 2008 season won Luca Scassa on MV Agusta F4 R 312 Team Union Bike Gimotorsports the Italian Superbike Championship . In the final standings, he had 110 points, 23 more points than second-placed Yamaha rider Claudio Corti.

2009 season

The 2009 season denied Scassa as a regular driver for the factory-supported private Italian Team Pedercini in the Superbike World Championship . He drove a Kawasaki ZX-10R, his teammate was the Spaniard David Salom . Scassa showed a positive development over the course of the season, dominated his teammates at all times and, especially in the second half of the season, consistently achieved midfield positions or even championship points. He achieved his best placement with rank 13 in the first run of the penultimate event of the season in the French Magny-Cours . With a total of eleven points, Scassa finished 29th overall.

2010 season

In the 2010 season , Luca Scassa starts in the Supersonic Team on a Ducati 1098R . After missing the first round of the season in Australia and not reaching the points in Portugal twice, he scored his first World Championship points of the season in Valencia, Spain, with two 14th places. Since then, the Italian has consistently been in the points, often even achieving results in the top ten and regularly leaving some factory drivers behind.

At the first round at Miller Motorsports Park in the United States , Scassa achieved his best result of the season to date and the best result of his career in the Superbike World Championship, finishing seventh. At the following race in Misano he reached the third round of Superpole qualification for the first time and started in eighth place. In the races he reached positions eleven and eight.

Two weeks later in Brno , Czech Republic , Luca Scassa started the race as the best Ducati driver from sixth place on the grid. However, in the fifth lap of the first run, he fell in seventh position with a highsider and broke the third and fourth metatarsal bones on his right foot, which forced him to skip the second run. At the following event in Silverstone , UK , Scassa competed again despite injury. In the second free practice session he was hit by a gust of wind at about 270 km / h while approaching the Stowe Corner , where Michael Schumacher had an accident in 1999 , and he fell. The Italian suffered bruises on his right shoulder, right arm and right foot, which made it impossible to start the races.

Supersport World Cup
