The 2008 Superbike World Championship was the 21st in the history of the FIM - Superbike World Championship . 28 races were held at 14 events.
Distribution of points
The world champion will be the driver or manufacturer who has accumulated the most points in the world championship by the end of the season. When distributing points, the placements are taken into account in the overall result of the respective race. The top fifteen drivers in each race receive points according to the following scheme:

- All pilots competed on Pirelli uniform tires.
- For the 2008 season there was a change in the technical regulations, which now allowed two-cylinder engines to have a displacement of up to 1200 cm³ instead of the previous 1000 cm³.
- The Italian manufacturer Ducati launched the completely newly developed Ducati 1098 R, the only 1200 cc two-cylinder motorcycle, and equipped six riders.
- The 2007 world champion , the Briton James Toseland , did not defend his title, he moved to the MotoGP class of the motorcycle world championship .
- The most interesting newcomers among the riders were the Turkish Supersport World Champion of the 2007 season , Kenan Sofuoğlu , the Japanese Ryūichi Kiyonari , who won the British Superbike Championship in 2006 and 2007 , and Carlos , who switched from the MotoGP class Checa and Makoto Tamada .
- After ten years as the title sponsor, the Mexican Corona brewery left the Superbike World Championship for the 2008 season, and the new main sponsor of the series was the Taiwanese screen manufacturer HANNspree .
