The 2006 Superbike World Championship season was the 19th in the history of the FIM - Superbike World Championship . 24 races were held at twelve events.
Distribution of points
The world champion will be the driver or manufacturer who has accumulated the most points in the world championship by the end of the season. When distributing points, the placements are taken into account in the overall result of the respective race. The top fifteen drivers in each race receive points according to the following scheme:

- All pilots started on Pirelli uniform tires.
- World champion Troy Bayliss returned to the Superbike World Championship before the season after three years in the MotoGP class and immediately secured his second title. At the end of the season, he dared to take another MotoGP excursion and won the last race of the season at the Valencia Grand Prix on Ducati Desmosedici .
- The Italian Pierfrancesco Chili ended his career at the end of the season after 278 races and 17 race wins at the age of 42 and thus holds the record of contested races in the Superbike World Championship to this day.
- The German Max Neukirchner was replaced at Team Klaffi Honda by the Brazilian veteran Alex Barros and therefore started the season in the private Italian Ducati Team Pedercini . Due to recurring technical problems, for which he was often blamed, Neukirchner and Pedercini separated during the season. From the race in Assen, the Netherlands, Neukirchner started for the factory-supported Alstare Engineering Corona Extra team on Suzuki.
