Andrew Pitt (born February 19, 1976 in Kempsey , New South Wales , Australia ) is an Australian motorcycle racer .

Career

Andrew Pitt finished second in the Australian Superbike Championship in 1999 and moved to the Supersport World Championship in 2000 , where he became World Champion in 2001 on a Kawasaki . In 2003 he switched to the motorcycle world championship for a less than successful year as part of Kawasaki's MotoGP project . He scored the first World Cup points for his team and finished the season on 26th place in the World Cup. After another year in the Supersport class, he finished seventh on a Yamaha in his first Superbike World Championship season in 2005 . In 2006 Pitt won his first win in this class in Misano and finished fifth in the World Championship. Nevertheless, at the end of the season he lost his place at Yamaha to Troy Corser . 2007 season Pitt entered the MotoGP class as a driver of the new Ilmor SRT X³ , but the team withdrew after the first race of the season due to financial problems.

In 2008 , he drove a Honda CBR 600 RR in the Supersport World Championship for the Dutch Ten Kate team . On August 3, 2008, there was a tragic accident at the World Championship run at Brands Hatch . The 23-year-old Briton Craig Jones fell right in front of Andrew Pitt and was hit in the head by the Australian's front wheel, which could no longer evade. Jones suffered a traumatic brain injury and died a few hours later in a London hospital. This season Pitt won the world championship title in the Supersport World Championship for the second time.

The 2010 season denied Andrew Pitt on a BMW S 1000 RR in the BMW -Kundenteam team riding car BMW in the Superbike World Championship. His teammate was the Austrian Roland Resch . However, the "Reitwagen-BMW" project failed and Pitt switched to the British Superbike at Yamaha in the middle of the season .
