James Toseland
James Michael Toseland (born October 5, 1980 in Kiveton Park , Sheffield ) is a retired British motorcycle racer .
Career
James Toseland joined the Supersport World Series in 1998 at the age of 17 as a team-mate of Michaël Paquay on the official Castrol Honda factory team. In the second race of the season in Monza , Italy , the entire team was struck by a severe blow of fate. First Toseland broke his foot in first free practice and Paquay was fatally injured in second free practice on Saturday.
From 2001 to 2007 Toseland started first on Ducati and later on Honda in the Superbike World Championship . In 2004 he won his first world title with the Ducati works team, followed by his second title in 2007 with the Dutch team Hannspree Ten Kate Honda . With the former title, he became the youngest Superbike World Champion of all time at the age of 23 years and 364 days.
In the season 2008 / 2009 drove Toseland for the Yamaha Tech 3 team in the MotoGP class of the Motorcycle World Championship .
In the 2010 season, Toseland moved back to the Yamaha Sterilgarda Team in the 2010 Superbike World Championship , replacing Ben Spies there.
In October 2010 Toseland announced that he would be riding alongside Ayrton Badovini in the factory-supported BMW Motorrad Italia Team in the 2011 Superbike World Championship .
Toseland broke his right wrist in a serious fall during test drives in Motorland Aragon in March 2011. Due to the permanent damage, he ended his active career as a motorcycle racing driver in September 2011.
Personal
Toseland is very musical , is considered a gifted pianist and is the singer of a band called Toseland, in which the brother of the Georgian- British singer Katie Melua plays the guitar . On September 1, 2012, he and Melua were married in London .
