Raymond Roche

Raymond Roche (born February 21, 1957 in Ollioules , Var department , France ) is a former French motorcycle racer .

In 1990 he won the Superbike World Championship on a Ducati 851 Racing . During his career he was also known as "Raymond le rapide" .

Career

Motorcycle World Championship

Raymond Roche began his career in the motorcycle world championship in the 1976 season , in which he competed in a Grand Prix on a Yamaha in the 250 cc class. After that he appeared sporadically in the 250 cc and 350 cc class.

Between 1979 and 1989 Roche competed for Yamaha, Suzuki , Honda and Cagiva in the 500 cc class of the World Cup. He experienced his best season in 1984 when he achieved two pole positions , four second and four third places on a Honda and was third in the overall standings with 99 points behind Eddie Lawson and Randy Mamola .

Superbike World Championship

Raymond Roche won the 1990 Superbike World Championship with the Ducati 851 SBK90.

When the Superbike World Championship was launched for the 1988 season , Raymond Roche also started in this class. In the following years he fought for the world championship crown on Ducati and was able to celebrate the greatest success of his career in 1990 by winning the world championship. In 1991 and 1992 he was runner- up behind the American Doug Poland . After the 1992 season, he ended his career.

In the Superbike World Championship, Raymond Roche took part in a total of 95 races, of which he was able to win 23. In addition, he achieved 57 podium positions and 25 fastest race laps. This makes him one of the most successful pilots in this class to this day.
