Carl Fogarty (born July 1, 1965 in Blackburn , North West England , England ) is a retired British motorcycle racer . To this day he is one of the most successful drivers in the history of the Superbike World Championship .
Career
Fogarty, also known as Foggy , has won the Superbike World Championship four times. It is known for its high cornering speeds and was also successful in the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man . In 1992 he presented a 750- cc - Yamaha to a new lap record. Fogarty needed 18 minutes and 18.8 seconds for the 60.7 km lap on the Snaefell Mountain Course , which corresponds to an average speed of 198.93 km / h. That record wasn't broken until seven years later by Jim Moodie on a Honda RC45 .
After a racing accident in Phillip Island, Australia in 2000, Foggy had to retire from active racing for health reasons. Carl Fogarty is still one of the most successful drivers of the Superbike World Championship with four world championship titles and 59 race wins.
In 2002 Ducati presented a limited model (only 300 pieces) in his honor, the Monster S4 Fogarty . His (mostly) successful fights with Scott Russell , Aaron Slight and Troy Corser are legendary .
From 2003 to 2006 he was team boss of the Foggy Petronas Racing Team and competed in the Superbike World Championship with the Petronas FP1 .
Trivia
In 2014 he took part in the 14th season of the British television show I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! part which he won.
