Ian Hutchinson (born August 12, 1979 in Bingley ) is an English motorcycle racer . Hutchinson drives mostly road races .

Career

Beginnings

Hutchinson drove his first major race in 2003 at the Manx Grand Prix on the Isle of Man , the amateur and junior competition of the Isle of Man TT , on a Honda . In the following years he repeatedly drew attention to himself through his placements. In 2006 he was signed by the McAdoo team and promptly won the North West 200 in the Supersport class on their Kawasaki with a lap record of 188.10 km / h.

A year later, Ian Hutchinson moved to the HM Plant Team , competed on Honda at the Isle of Man TT and won the Supersport Junior class . In 2008 he changed teams again and took two podium places at the TT for Alastair Flanagans AIM Racing on a Yamaha . In 2009, Hutchinson moved to Honda and joined the Padgett team.

Major season 2010

The documentary Hart am Limit (original title: TT3D: Closer to the Edge ) by Richard de Aragues accompanied Hutchinson and his driver colleague Guy Martin during this year's TT. This year, Ian Hutchinson achieved what no one else had achieved in the 103-year history of the TT on the Isle of Man, namely victory in all five races for solo motorcycles (Junior Races A and B, Superstock, Superbike and Senior ). After this triumph he suffered a serious accident a few days later at the British championship run in Silverstone : On the first lap, several drivers fell on the wet track. Including Hutchinson who was then run over by the following machines. According to their own information, the doctors treated wanted to amputate the multiple broken left leg.

Continuation of the racing career

Despite the accident, Ian Hutchinson competed for Swan Yamaha at the Macau Grand Prix at the end of 2011 and took third place. In spring 2012, he broke his left leg again while rehearsing a stunt at the MCN Excel Motorcycle Show in London . There were again complications and it was not until 2013 that he returned to racing. This time for the Milwaukee team again on Yamaha. Hutchinson had some successes in 2013 and 2014. However, the comeback in 2015 was the tenth victory with the PBM Rapid Solicitors team on Kawasaki at the Tourist Trophy. The victory after the serious accidents once again met with very broad media coverage, similar to the unique success of 2010 as a five-time winner. Hutchinson has been under contract with Team Traction Control on Yamaha and BMW since the 2016 season . In the 2017 TT he won two titles for BMW, but fell in the senior class, which caused the race to be interrupted, and broke his thigh.
