Hasegawa joined Yamaha as a driver around 1963 . In the same year as the first Japanese Grand Prix was held. After the company had not shown any involvement in races in Europe for a year and a half, he came back in the same year together with Fumio Ito and Yoshikazu Sunako to take part in the legendary Isle of Man TT with the two-stroke engines of the RD series. The Japanese manufacturers Suzuki (for the first time in 1962 ) and Honda (for the first time in 1961 ) had already been successful at the TT. Yamaha did not achieve this goal until 1965 with the victory of Phil Read , but Hasegawa was able to achieve a highly regarded fourth place for his employer in the lightweight class up to 250 cm³. Hasegawa's greatest success was the Macau Grand Prix at the Guia Circuit . Here he triumphed twice in a row with his RD56 at an average speed of 96 km / h (60  mph ). In 1966 he ended his active career as a factory driver and opened a motorcycle shop in his home country.
