Mick Grant (born July 10, 1944 in Middlestown , Yorkshire ) is a retired British motorcycle racer . He mostly drove road races .

Career

Grant grew up as the son of a miner . According to his own statements, he started riding a motorcycle at the age of eleven. Lacking money for fuel, he pumped these cars out of parked cars at night.

In the late 1960s he started professional racing on Triumph . Grant sporadically took part in the motorcycle world championship and was able to take two Grand Prix victories in the quarter-liter class and eighth place in the overall standings in 1977 . However, he was able to record his greatest successes in road races. In 1972 he won the Thruxton 500 for Norton . In the all-time list of the Isle of Man TT , he ranks ninth with seven wins. His most successful year was 1977 on a Kawasaki . In addition to road races, he also competed in the national Superstock Cup until he retired from active racing in 1985. Mick Grant remained connected to motorcycling as the manager of Jamie Whitham , Steve Plater , Craig Jones and Chris Vermeulen . In 2010 he published his biography "Takin 'the Mick". In 2014, Norton announced they had hired Grant for their racing team.
