Carlos Checa
Carlos Checa (born October 15, 1972 in Barcelona , Catalonia , Spain ) is a former Spanish motorcycle racer and Superbike World Champion 2011.
Career
Checa made his debut in the 1993 season on Honda in the classes up to 125 cm³ and 250 cm³ in the motorcycle world championship . In 1995 he rose to the 500 cc class as a substitute driver for the injured Alberto Puig and was also the Spanish champion in the 250 cc class in the same year. In 1999, Checa joined Yamaha as a teammate from Max Biaggi . In 2004 Checa rode alongside Valentino Rossi for another year before joining Ducati in 2005 . In the 2006 season , Checa competed with James Ellison for the Yamaha Tech 3 team in the MotoGP class. In the 2007 season he drove a Honda in Lucio Cecchinello's team . Checa won a race in the 500 cc class in 1996 and 1998. In the 1998 season he achieved his best ever World Cup result with fourth place.
For the 2008 season, Checa moved to the Superbike World Championship , where he replaced previous year's champion James Toseland at Ten Kate Honda, who had migrated to the MotoGP class . That year he also won the Suzuka 8-hour race with Ryūichi Kiyonari on a Honda CBR 1000RR .
He celebrated his greatest career success at the age of almost 39 when he won the title of Superbike World Champion on a Ducati in the 2011 season . He is the first Spaniard to do this. After the 2013 season, he ended his active career.
