The 1998 Superbike World Championship season was the eleventh in the history of the FIM - Superbike World Championship . 24 races were held at twelve events.
The world champion will be the driver or manufacturer who has accumulated the most points in the world championship by the end of the season. When distributing points, the placements are taken into account in the overall result of the respective race. The top fifteen drivers in each race receive points according to the following scheme:

In Donington the first run was canceled after ten laps, restarted later and the addition of the two parts counted.
In Laguna Seca, the first run was canceled after 13 laps due to an accident, and another accident occurred when restarting. The run was then not restarted and scored with halved points.
