Career

After Alessandro Gramigni had drawn attention to himself with a series of good results in amateur races (125 cc vice European champion in 1988 and 1989), he began his career in the 125 cc class of the motorcycle world championship in the 1990 season . He started on an Aprilia and managed to achieve two podium finishes in his first season with second place in Sweden and third place in the Czech Republic . In the overall ranking, Gramigni achieved eighth place with 84 points. The following season he continued to compete in the 125 cc class for Aprilia in Team Italia . At the race in Brno in the Czech Republic , Alessandro Gramigni celebrated his first Grand Prix victory; in the overall standings he achieved seventh place with 90 points this year. In 1992 Gramigni was somewhat surprisingly world champion in the eight-liter class. After the world champion of the past two years, compatriot Loris Capirossi , had switched to the 250cc class, Alessandro Gramigni was able to win the title with two wins and seven podium positions in twelve races. At the end of the season he had 134 points in the overall standings, 16 points more than his closest rival Fausto Gresini .

For the 1993 season , Gramigni rose to the 250 cc class, where he first started on Gilera and later on Aprilia. With two meager points, however, he did not get past 30th place in the overall standings. The Italian also competed in the 250 World Cup in 1994 and 1995 , but without being successful. He only reached 23rd place overall in these two years. After that, the Fiorentine was no longer a regular driver in the world championship.

For the 1997 season Gramigni was hired by Aprilia as a test driver for the 500 cc class and contested his last Grand Prix race at the Malaysian Grand Prix. In 1998, Alessandro Gramigni then withdrew from the motorcycle world championship to compete in the Italian Superbike championship . In the 2004 season he was able to win this on a Yamaha from the 391 Racing team.

From 1998 to 2000 , Alessandro Gramigni competed in the Superbike World Championship, first on a Ducati and later on a Yamaha . He achieved his best World Cup placement in 1998 when he was 14th. After that, the Italian started sporadically in this series until 2005 .
