Crivillé took second place in his first World Championship race in 1987 in the 80 cc class. The season 1988 he finished as joint-seventh and the following year he drove his first full season in the 125cc. He won the title in this class with five wins of the season on the first attempt.
For the 1990 season, Crivillé switched to the class up to 250 cm³. After two years without a win, he was promoted to the 500 cc class. In the 1992 season he was eighth in the Sito Pons team with a win in Assen . Another eighth place in the World Championship followed in 1993 , before Crivillé was promoted to works driver in 1994 as Mick Doohan's teammate at Repsol- Honda . He finished fourth in 1995 and 1997 , third in 1998 and second in 1996 .
After Doohan's career ended, Crivillé seized the opportunity and took the 1999 World Championship title with six wins . After two mixed seasons in 2000 and 2001 , however, he was fired by Honda. A planned MotoGP season in 2002 in the D'Antin team failed due to health problems. Crivillé then resigned from active racing.
