Lorenzo Dalla Porta (born June 22, 1997 in Prato ) is an Italian motorcycle racer .

Career

Dalla Porta followed by Fabio Di Giannantonio in 2016

Lorenzo Dalla Porta won in 2012 the Italian 125cc Championship on a two-stroke - Aprilia RS 125 R of Team OR by 2B Corse-Zack M . In the following two years he also competed in the Campionato Italiano Velocità . In the newly created Moto3 category, which had replaced the 125cc two-stroke class, he finished eleventh or third overall.

In the 2015 and 2016 seasons, Dalla Porta competed in the Spanish Moto3 Championship on Husqvarna in the Laglisse Academy team . After finishing ninth in the first year, he was able to secure the title in 2016, nine points ahead of Marcos Ramírez .

Dalla Porta made his debut in the motorcycle world championship at the Indianapolis Grand Prix 2015 with the Husqvarna Factory Laglisse team , where he took the place of Isaac Viñales , who had switched to KTM to the RBA Racing Team , for the rest of the season . Dalla Porta scored 13 points this season - best result eighth in Great Britain  - which earned him 25th place in the World Championship.

In 2016 , Dalla Porta contested a total of nine races for three different teams in the World Cup and scored twelve points.

The 2017 season was Lorenzo Dalla Porta's first as a regular driver in the Moto3 World Championship. He competed with manageable success on a Mahindra MGP3O belonging to Jorge Martínez's Aspar team alongside Albert Arenas . In 2018 , Dalla Porta drove a Honda NSF250R for Team Leopard Racing . His teammate was compatriot Enea Bastianini . At the season opener in Qatar , he achieved his first podium in the World Cup with third place behind Jorge Martín and Arón Canet . In the second half of the season, he achieved his first victory at the San Marino Grand Prix in Misano . Three second places in the last five races of this season ensured a point yield of 151 points, with which he finished fifth in the overall standings.

In 2019 Dalla Porta competed for Leopard Racing as well. His team mate this year was the Spaniard Marcos Ramírez. With four wins and 279 points, Dalla Porta became Moto3 world champion and thus the first Italian world champion in the smallest class since Andrea Dovizioso in 2004 .

In 2020 , Dalla Porta will move up to the Moto2 class and compete for Italtrans Racing on a Kalex alongside his former Moto3 teammate Bastianini . He also changed his starting number for the first time, from 48 to 19. After five races, Dalla Porta is still without points, with 19th place as the best result.
