Enea Bastianini (born December 30, 1997 in Rimini ) is an Italian motorcycle racer . He has been racing in the Moto2 class of the motorcycle world championship since 2018 .

Career

Early years

Enea Bastianini has starting number 33, which can be traced back to his first experiences at the age of three years and three months on a minibike . After several years in various Italian championships, he took part in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in 2013 and finished the season fourth overall.

Moto3 class

In 2014 Bastianini made his debut in the Moto3 class of the motorcycle world championship on KTM with the GO & FUN Moto3 team at the side of Niccolò Antonelli at the Qatar Grand Prix in Losail . He achieved his first podium at the Grand Prix of Catalonia in Barcelona when he finished the race in second place behind Álex Márquez . After further top ten placements and two podiums in the Czech Republic and Great Britain , Bastianini finished the season ninth in the overall standings. He also won the Rookie of the Year title .

In the 2015 season Enea Bastianini launched, now at Honda and Andrea Locatelli as a new teammates, with podiums in Qatar, France and Catalonia. In his home race, the San Marino Grand Prix in Misano , he won his first win ahead of Miguel Oliveira and Niccolò Antonelli . He finished the season in third behind Danny Kent and Oliveira with a total of six podiums.

In 2016 , in his third season in the Moto3 class, in which he again had a new team-mate in Fabio Di Giannantonio , Enea Bastianini has achieved a total of six podium places so far, including a victory at the Japanese Grand Prix in Motegi . In the end he was runner-up behind Brad Binder .

For the 2017 season Bastianini switched to the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team and replaced Jorge Navarro there . He didn't manage to win that season, in the end he finished sixth with a second and two third places. He had to admit defeat by 199 to 141 points against his team-mate Arón Canet .

In 2018 , the Italian moved to Leopard Racing to replace reigning world champion Joan Mir . Bastianini took his only win of the season at the Grand Prix of Catalonia and was fourth in the World Cup. He prevailed against his team mate Lorenzo Dalla Porta by 177 to 151 points.

In 2019 Bastianini moved up to the Moto2 class and drove for the Italtrans Racing Team alongside his former Moto3 team-mate Andrea Locatelli. He finished tenth in the World Championship with 97 points, including a third place at the Czech Grand Prix and clearly beat Locatelli, who had collected 46 points.

In 2020 Bastianini stayed with the team and got another former Moto3 team-mate at his side in Lorenzo Dalla Porta. At the start of the season, the Qatar Grand Prix , Bastianini finished third behind Tetsuta Nagashima and Lorenzo Baldassarri . The Italian finished the Spanish Grand Prix , his 100th World Championship run, in seventh place before taking his first Moto2 victory at the Andalusian Grand Prix . After another victory at the Czech Grand Prix , Bastianini took the lead in a World Championship class for the first time in his career.
