Arón Canet (born September 30, 1999 in Corbera ) is a Spanish motorcycle racer .

He has been competing in the Moto3 class of the motorcycle world championship since 2016 . He rode a Honda for the first three years , but then switched to KTM .

Career

Early years

Before moving to the world championship, Canet competed in the CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship from 2014 to 2015 and finished the 2015 season in third place overall.

Moto3 class

In 2016 Canet made his debut in the Moto3 class of the motorcycle world championship with the Estrella Galicia 0,0 team alongside Jorge Navarro . He achieved his first podium at the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island . In the last race, the Valencia Grand Prix , he achieved his first pole position , but had to start out of the pits due to a technical defect and finished 19th. He finished the season in 15th place.

In 2017 , Canet achieved his first victory in the motorcycle world championship by overtaking Joan Mir and Romano Fenati in the last corner at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez . That year he won the Dutch TT in Assen and the Grand Prix of Great Britain in Silverstone and was third behind Mir and Fenati. He was able to leave his new team-mate Enea Bastianini , who finished sixth without a win, far behind.

Canet stayed with his team for the 2018 season . Alonso López was a new team-mate after Bastianini joined Leopard Racing. However, Canet won no race this season and finished the season in sixth place in the World Cup, although he had led the World Cup for the first time with two second places in the first two races. Due to bad luck with injuries he had to skip the new Grand Prix of Thailand . He had clearly defeated his new team-mate Alonso López with 128 to 36 points.

For season 2019 left Canet Estrella Galicia 0.0 and switched to Max Biaggi's new Sterilgarda Max Racing Team , where he on KTM took. He was the only driver for the team that year. After finishing third in the first race in Qatar (from pole position) and twelfth in Argentina , the young Spaniard won the Grand Prix of The Americas in Austin , tied with World Cup leader Jaume Masiá , who finished second had more to record.
