Romano Fenati
Romano Fenati (born January 15, 1996 in Ascoli Piceno ) is an Italian motorcycle racer .
Career
Fenati started racing a pocket bike in 2003 at the age of seven . In 2010 he made his debut in the Italian 125 cc class and reached thirteenth place overall in his first season. A year later he became European champion in the 125 cc class.
Motorcycle world championship
Moto3 class
In 2012 Fenati entered the Moto3 class of the motorcycle world championship. He drove the team Italia FMI on a FTR - Honda . His first win was the second race of the season in Spain at the Circuito de Jerez . At the end of the season he finished sixth overall with four podium finishes.
He competed in the 2013 season for the San Carlo Team Italia team , also with a Honda. The season was less successful, his best finish was fifth at the Japanese Grand Prix in Motegi . He finished the season in tenth place overall.
In 2014 he switched to Valentino Rossi's Sky Racing Team by VR46 , where he rode a KTM alongside Francesco Bagnaia . With four wins and two second places, Fenati finished fifth overall.
Fenati was also in 2015 when Sky Racing Team by VR46 , he got with Andrea Migno a new teammates. At the Japanese Grand Prix he achieved his first pole position in the Moto3 class. With a win in France and a total of three podium finishes, he finished fourth overall at the end of the season.
Fenati also drove for Valentino Rossi's team in 2016 . In addition to his team-mate Migno from last year, Nicolò Bulega also started there this season . After Fenati, according to his team, repeatedly failed to behave according to the team's disciplinary rules, he was suspended after qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix . Up until this incident, his former team, Sky Racing Team by VR46, had planned to allow Fenati to compete in the Moto2 class from 2017 . In his place, his compatriot Francesco Bagnaia rose from the Moto3 class.
Fenati himself drove again in Moto3 in 2017. He signed with Team Marinelli Rivacold Snipers and drove a Honda there.
In 2019 Fenati got a place in the Marinelli-Snipers team in the Moto3 class and won the Austrian Grand Prix in the same .
In 2020 the Italian moved to Max Biaggi's Sterilgarda Max Racing Team . He will take it to the start on a Husqvarna . His team mate is the Spaniard Alonso López .
Moto2 class
In 2018 Fenati switched to the Moto2 class. At the 2018 San Marino Grand Prix , Fenati grabbed the handlebars of his competitor Stefano Manzi during the race at a speed of 217 km / h and pressed the front brake lever. For this he was disqualified for the race and later banned for two races. Well-known racing drivers like Cal Crutchlow and Pol Espargaró had demanded far tougher penalties. His team Marinelli Snipers Moto2 announced him shortly afterwards. The recently signed Moto2 contract between Romano Fenati and the Forward Racing Team for the 2019 season was also terminated at the instigation of motorcycle supplier MV Agusta . On September 11, 2018, Fenati announced his preliminary retirement. He is currently threatened with investigations into attempted murder by the Italian public prosecutor.
