Marcel Schrötter (born January 2, 1993 in Pflugdorf ) is a German motorcycle racer .

In 2008 and 2009 he won the title in the 125 cm³ class of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) on a Honda .

Beginnings

Marcel Schrötter contested his first race in 1996, at the age of three, on a Yamaha PW 50 at Motocross in Reichling . In 2002, at the age of nine, he won the DMSB / dmsj-Pocket-Bike-Junior-Cup . In 2003 Schrötter switched to the ADAC Mini Bike Cup , in which he competed for two years. In 2005, the Bavarian was invited by five-time world champion Toni Mang to his motorcycle training at the Hockenheim and Salzburgring , where he was able to convince. In the same year he took third place in the ADAC Junior Cup with a race win , in 2006 Schrötter achieved four race wins and thus improved to second place.

German championship

Since 2007, Marcel Schrötter has been looked after and supported by Toni Mang, who takes care of driving and technical matters as well as the search for sponsors , Sepp Schlögl and Adi Stadler , who are responsible for the motorcycles. He competes for the Toni Mang team on a Honda RS 125 in the 125 cm³ class of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM). In his first race in this class at the Lausitzring , at the age of 14, he achieved second place behind the future German champion Georg Fröhlich . Schrötter finished the 2007 season in fifth place overall.

In the 2008 season, the Bavarian celebrated his first IDM victory at the first race of the season at the Lausitzring. In the further course of the season Schrötter achieved another four victories, whereby he was able to prevail in the overall standings against the Dutchman Joey Litjens and win the eighth-liter title. He also took part sporadically in the Spanish championship and was able to win the first round of the season in Valencia .

In 2009 Marcel Schrötter dominated the IDM 125 . He won the first three races at the Lausitzring, in Oschersleben and at the Nürburgring . At the Sachsenring , the Bavarian had to admit defeat to Jonas Folger and Jakub Kornfeil , but since they were not entitled to points for the 125 cm³ IDM, he got the maximum 25 points here too. After finishing second on the Salzburgring, Schrötter secured his second German championship title at the age of 16 with victory on the Schleizer Dreieck on August 2, 2009, two races before the end of the season. He has been the first driver since Alfred Waibel in 1988 to defend his 125cc title.

125 cc World Championship

In 2008 , Marcel Schrötter made his debut in the 125 cc class of the motorcycle world championship at the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring , one of his favorite tracks . He started as a wildcard pilot and achieved three world championship points with 13th place. In 2009 Schrötter qualified, again with a wildcard, in the same race under wet conditions for fourth place on the grid and thus for the front row. He finished the race in twelfth place.

Schrötter competed in the 2010 season for the Interwetten Honda 125cc team on a Honda in the 125cc World Championship. 2011 he competed in the same class for the Indian Mahindra - factory team .

Moto2 class

Schrötter has been driving for various manufacturers and teams in the Moto2 class since the Indianapolis Grand Prix in the 2012 season . In 2013 he contested his first full season in this Moto2 class and finished 16th in the world championship. In 2014 he drove for the Tech 3 team and achieved his best result to date with tenth place in the overall standings, although his best race placement was only a seventh place. In the 2018 season he achieved his best placement in the World Championship ranking on a Kalex with eighth place. At the San Marino Grand Prix , Schrötter made it onto the podium for the first time in the world championship, and came third.
