2012 season>

The 2011 motorcycle world championship was the 63rd in the history of the FIM - motorcycle road world championship .

18 races were held in the MotoGP class and 17 races in the Moto2 class and the class up to 125 cm³.

Distribution of points

The world champion will be the driver or manufacturer who has accumulated the most points in the world championship by the end of the season. When distributing points, the placements are taken into account in the overall result of the respective race. The top fifteen drivers in each race receive points according to the following scheme:

useful information

  • The 125 cm³ class, which has existed since 1949 , was held for the last time in 2011. From 2012 it will be replaced by the Moto3 class.
  • The Japanese Grand Prix on the Twin Ring Motegi was postponed from April 24th to October 2nd after the Tōhoku earthquake in mid-March 2011.
  • The Italian Marco Simoncelli had a fatal accident at the Malaysian Grand Prix . After he lost control of his motorcycle and fell, subsequent riders Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi hit him in the back and head; his helmet came off. Simoncelli died of the serious injuries.
