Danny Kent (born November 25, 1993 in Chippenham , England ) is a British motorcycle racer and World Champion in the Moto3 class.

Career

Kent began his racing career on a pocket bike in 2001, when he was six years old. Discovered by former motorcycle racer Roger Burnett , Kent started in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in 2009 (1 win; 4th overall) and 2010 (2 wins; 2nd overall) .

In 2010 he had his first races in the 125 cm³ class of the motorcycle world championship .

Motorcycle world championship

125 cc / Moto3 class

In 2011 Danny Kent started his first full season in the Motorcycle World Championship. He rode an Aprilia for Aki Ajo's team . He stayed with the Ajo Motorsport team in 2012 in the newly created Moto3 class. The motorcycle was now a KTM . This year Kent was able to record two victories and finished fourth overall. In the 2013 season he competed in the Moto2 category on Tech 3 . At the end of the season he finished 22nd overall with 15 points.

In 2014 Danny Kent went back to the Moto3 class. He achieved two third places on a Husqvarna . He finished eighth overall with 129 points. In 2015 he switched to the Leopard Racing Team . There he drove a Honda . His teammates were the Spaniard Efrén Vázquez and the Japanese Hiroki Ono . At the last round of the season in Valencia at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit , Kent was ninth enough to become world champion in the Moto3 class for the first time in his career.

After separating from Kiefer Racing in Moto2 in 2017 , Danny Kent drove the French Grand Prix with a wildcard for his former Red Bull KTM Ajo team .

Moto2 class

For the 2016 season , the Briton rose again to the Moto2 class. As before in Moto3, he was part of the Leopard Racing Team . His teammate there was the Portuguese Miguel Oliveira . At the end of the season he finished 22nd overall with 35 points. His best result was sixth place in the Qatar Grand Prix . In 2017 he got a new team-mate in the Swiss Dominique Aegerter . However, Kent himself did not stay with the team for long. After the warm-up for the Texas Grand Prix , the third race of the season, he parted ways with Kiefer Racing . Danny Kent cited irreconcilable differences as the reason.
